Every day, road crashes devastate the lives of Queenslanders and take an enormous toll on families and communities.
Now in its fifth year, Queensland Road Safety Week 2019 is being celebrated with events and activities across the state, from August 26 to August 30.
During Queensland Road Safety Week, all Queensland road users are encouraged to put road safety first.
Drink driving or driving whilst impaired directly causes losses of life and serious injury. During 2018 in Queensland:
119 people (48.6 per cent) died and 1289 people (19.1 per cent) were seriously injured in crashes involving drink or drug driving;
43 people (17.6 per cent) died and 618 people (9.15 per cent) were seriously injured in crashes involving drink driving; and
One in every six fatalities were as a result of drink driving.
