Break and enters in multi-storey residential apartments, South Brisbane

If you think living in a multi-storey residential apartment means break-ins aren’t possible … think again.
There has been an increase of burglaries in the South Brisbane area over the last few weeks.
Entry is being gained after climbing several stories, or drain pipes, and entering via unsecured balcony doors and windows. On some occasions, minimal force has been used to remove fly screens and once inside, easy to conceal items such as wallets, jewellery, car keys, laptops, iPads, phones and cash have been stolen.
Local police are encouraging all residents to assess their home security prior to leaving the home and going to bed, and have provided the following home security tips:

Keep your balcony screens locked at all times, including at night;
Fit deadlocks on doors and window screen locks to your windows;
Use keys to lock your windows and doors;
Do not leave any keys in security locks on your windows or doors;
