Brisbane’s inaugural Multicultural Sports Festival took place over the weekend with local and interstate teams facing off at the iconic Eagle Sports Complex in Mansfield.
Teams representing 16 diverse nations and communities kicked, volleyed and scored goals despite the extreme conditions.
This two day event was part of Brisbane City Council’s BrisAsia Festival 2019.
Teams from Melbourne, Adelaide, the Gold Coast competed with local teams for the championship across a range of sports including football (soccer), cricket and volleyball.
Event organiser Jagdeep Singh from the Indian Cultural & Sports and Club Inc said that everyone was amazed at the events turnout.
“This tournament is a testament to our communities passion for sport and our celebrating cultural diversity.” he said.
Sergeant Jim Bellos traded in his police uniform to referee some of the intense football games.
