Police from Brisbane Region spent Australia Day engaging with our diverse community around the Southbank and West End areas.
They were pleased to march along with members of the Aboriginal community as they marched from Emma Miller Place in the City over to Musgrave Park at West End.
The march was well attended with an estimated crowd of 1000+ people, who braved the intense midday heat as they marched with an escort of Elders, motorcycles and a police contingent to ensure safe passage through the city streets. A smoking ceremony was held on the scared site at Musgrave Park and the younger generation enjoyed the traditional dash up Glenelg Street to finish the march at Musgrave Park.
Police also patrolled the Southbank Parkland as families enjoyed BBQs, swimming at Streets Beach and relaxing with friends as they waited for the evening fireworks.
