Police urge North Stradbroke residents to remain vigilant and be prepared – bushfire warning

Assistant Commissioner Peter Crawford, Brisbane Region, is urging people on North Stradbroke Island to stay up to date and be prepared for any eventuality with the current fires burning on the Island and the heat wave conditions being experienced today.
Assistant Commissioner Crawford travelled to North Stradbroke yesterday to visit local police and check the on-going response to the fires at the joint Incident Command Centre in Dunwich.
“Can I urge everyone on North Stradbroke and surrounding Southern Moreton Bay islands, especially Russell Island, not to be complacent and closely monitor the fire situation today, and in the coming days.
“While police, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) and other response agencies are on the island and working very hard in response to the fires the unpredictable nature of bushfires combined with the extreme weather expected today, means everyone needs to be prepared and ready for any eventuality.
