Operation Wake Up commences in South Brisbane

Operation Wake Up will run for two-months between November and December 2018 and will focus on reducing road fatalities on South Brisbane District roads.
In 2017, there were 13 fatalities on South Brisbane roads, this year South Brisbane District has had 16 fatal crashes which has resulted in 18 fatalities.
Operation Wake Up has been designed in coordination with a Fatal Crash Analysis and the data from a Victim Profile Analysis.
The analyses have indicated that out of the 18 fatalities this year, 14 have been male with the average age being 43 years old.
Of these victims, 13 lived within the South Brisbane District and 5 were from outside the district.
In all cases, drivers who caused the fatal crashes had a traffic history, majority for speeding offences.
Operation Wake Up intends to create a visible police presence in and around South Brisbane District roads to promote positive driving behaviour.
