Living safely in your apartment

When it comes to security, high-rise buildings and apartments are just as vulnerable as other residential homes.
No matter how many security measures have been put in place, poor security habits by residents can put the whole building at risk.
Good habits such as care, vigilance and common sense cost nothing and are highly effective in helping reduce crime.
Some strategies to help prevent crime and keep everyone safe in multi-residential dwellings are:

Know your building manager – have the manager’s number in your phone in case you need to contact them in an emergency;
Know your neighbour – a good neighbour can contact Police to provide information about suspicious activity;
If you are accessing the building – either on foot or in your vehicle – do not let a stranger enter in behind you. If they are a legitimate resident, they will have their own access fob/key;
If a stranger requests entry through the intercom system,
