Wynnum’s iconic Wading Pool and surrounds were transformed into a unique display of culture and heritage for the annual Quandamooka Festival and Kunjiel Family Fun Day on Saturday July 21.
The event was hosted by the Winnam Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Corporation in partnership with the Quandamooka Festival (Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation) and featured over 30 vibrant art and craft stalls, delicious food, rich displays of culture, traditional performances, games, fashion parades and various children’s programs.
Senior Police Liaison Officer Jacquelene Carter-O’Leary said that this year’s festivities allow us to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of the Elders and traditional Owners, alongside this year’s theme for NAIDOC ‘Because of Her, We Can’.
We can see the influence of our mothers, aunties, sisters, daughters in our community and the important role they play in all aspects of our lives including: the arts, the environment, and playing leading roles in local and national government.
