Lanterns light up South Bank

The Luminous Lantern Parade was once again held at Brisbane’s South Bank on Friday, June 8.
This year’s festivities marks the 11th consecutive year of the event, being the largest, most colourful and brightest to date.
What initially began as a humble event of 50 people has now grown to a spectacular celebration of over 20,000 participants, spectators and supporters filling the Cultural Forecourt and Riverside in the South Bank Precinct.

Senior Police Liaison Officers (SPLO) Mary Kenyi, Li Shan Huang, Weng Mun Sum and PLO Nasra Aden were enamoured by the sights of glowing animals and characters of all shapes and sizes lighting up the night sky.
Senior Police Liaison Officer Mary Kenyi said the addition of beautiful Australian fauna was a really nice touch.
“You can tell that the young, and the young at heart, really love to see such great artistic celebrations in our community.” she said.
